Heat from deep underground instead of heating oil.

In Münster, an oil-fired heating system with an annual consumption of approximately 2,300 liters was completely removed and replaced with a heat pump featuring a deep borehole.

The new plant also offers integrated natural cooling.

From Oil Heating to Geothermal Heating

In Münster, an oil-fired heating plant—which consumed about 2,300 liters per year—had previously met the building’s heating needs. MECO replaced the old plant with a ground-source heat pump connected to a deep borehole. The work required for this—drilling, core drilling, electrical installation, water treatment, and restoration of the terrace—was coordinated across six trades and completed in about a week and a half.

OVUM NHWP

Harnesses the heat stored in the ground through a deep borehole.

Deep drilling

A geothermal probe as a heat source for the brine heat pump.

Natural cooling function

Use the geothermal probe in the summer to supplement your air conditioning.

MIRA Plus Controller

Standard system control for the OVUM heat pump.

What Deep Drilling Means for Operations

What Deep Drilling Means for Operations

Instead of drawing heat from the ambient air, the ground-source heat pump uses a ground probe to tap into the heat stored underground. While the deep drilling required for this involves a one-time construction effort, it also provides natural cooling in the summer without the need for a separate air conditioner.

Implemented by an OVUM partner company

The removal of the oil-fired heating system, drilling work, installation of the brine heat pump, and coordination of the various trades involved were all handled by a single point of contact.
