A heat pump uses environmental heat from the air or the ground and requires electricity to do so. The extent to which CO₂ emissions are reduced compared to gas or oil heating depends on the plant’s seasonal performance factor and the electricity mix. OVUM also uses the natural refrigerant R290 (propane), and its smart PV integration maximizes the proportion of self-generated solar power.
OVUM uses the natural refrigerant R290 (propane), which has a GWP of 0.02 according to the 6th IPCC Assessment Report. It is not subject to the phase-out deadlines of the F-Gas Regulation (EU) 2024/573—meaning the plant can be refilled and maintained over the long term. Synthetic refrigerants have a GWP that is many times higher. The amount used is minimal: The CUBIC requires only 150 g of R290 per module, which even allows for indoor installation without additional safety measures.
The SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) describes the efficiency of a heat pump over the course of an entire year: It indicates how much heat is generated per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed. In 2022, the OVUM AC312P became the first air-source heat pump to achieve a SCOP(35) of 6.02—tested in accordance with EN 14825 by the independent heat pump testing center WPZ Buchs (Switzerland). This means that 1 kWh of electricity can produce up to 6 kWh of heat. This is made possible, among other things, by the HGS process (hot gas process) and the intelligent MIRA controller.
In standardized testing, the AC312P achieved a SCOP(35) of 6.02—making it the first air-source heat pump to exceed the 6 threshold (tested in accordance with EN 14825 by the WPZ heat pump testing center in Buchs, Switzerland, in 2022). The actual annual coefficient of performance during operation depends on the building, flow temperatures, and usage. You can use the MIRA statistics to accurately track your plant’s efficiency at any time.
The efficiency of OVUM heat pumps has been independently verified: In 2022, the AC312P became the first air-source heat pump to achieve a SCOP(35) of 6.02, as tested in accordance with EN 14825 by the WPZ Buchs Heat Pump Testing Center (Switzerland). In addition, the CUBIC’s stacking technology and the Thermotresor in the Cube storage unit are patented.

Yes, OVUM heat pumps are specifically designed for even the most challenging retrofit projects. The flexible heat distribution system works even at low flow temperatures and with existing or replaced radiators. Your expert partner will inspect your existing plant and plan the transition for you.
Whether a permit or notification is required depends on the location and regional regulations—your expert partner will clarify this for you during the planning process. Good to know: With a noise level of just 39.9 dB(A), the AirCube AC312P is also suitable for densely built-up areas and installation close to property lines.
The AirCube operates at a whisper-quiet 39.9 dB(A), making it barely noticeable—thanks to the bionic owl-wing principle. This allows it to be installed without any problems even in densely built-up residential areas and close to property lines.
Thanks to a SCOP of 6.02, the AirCube generates up to 6 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity—actual consumption depends on the heating load and usage patterns. With MIRA statistics and data logs, you can view electricity consumption, heat output, and the proportion of self-generated PV energy at any time in clear, easy-to-read graphs.
The Black Edition is the AirCube in elegant black—an alternative to the standard gray model. The low-profile housing, with its corrosion- and weather-resistant coating, blends discreetly into any architectural setting.
No. Deep drilling is one option, but not the only one. Depending on the property, ground-source collectors, ring-trench collectors, geothermal baskets, or—if the groundwater is suitable—well systems may also be considered. The CUBIC heat pump can integrate and even combine up to 10 different heat sources from water or the ground. It’s especially important to note the permitting requirements: geothermal systems generally require official approval. Jurisdiction and requirements may vary by country and state. Your OVUM expert partner will check in advance which source is permitted on your property and makes economic sense, and will handle the application process.
For larger retrofits, modulation and cascading ensure that the plant is precisely sized to meet heat demand and always operates within the optimal speed range. The stackable CUBIC can be easily expanded as demands increase—without the need for additional piping or system replacement. OVUM supports designers and partners with system design and integration.
The CUBIC is the first stackable brine heat pump: Thanks to patented stacking technology, up to 8 modules can be combined, and the output can be flexibly adjusted from 7 to 54.4 kW—without the need for additional piping or system replacement. With only 150 g of R290 per module, installation inside the building is possible without additional safety measures. In addition, up to 10 different energy sources—including air, water, or ground—can be integrated.
OVUM offers scalable solutions for apartment buildings and residential construction: The AirCube achieves up to 160 kW in a cascaded configuration, while the CUBIC, with a capacity of 21–54 kW, covers large residential buildings and smaller apartment buildings—and can be expanded later without replacing the system, thanks to patented stacking technology. Through the ModBus extension, MIRA also integrates into the building management system (BMS).

An OVUM heat pump uses free environmental heat—from the outside air (AirCube) or from sources such as the ground (CUBIC)—and uses a small amount of electricity to raise it to the temperature required for heating and hot water. This process generates up to 6 kWh of heat from 1 kWh of electricity (SCOP 6.02, tested by the independent testing institute WPZ Buchs, Switzerland, 2022). The natural refrigerant R290 (propane) is used, and the system is controlled by the intelligent MIRA operating system.

The OVUM portfolio covers a very wide range: from 2 kW for well-insulated single-family homes to 160 kW in a cascade configuration for large-scale projects. Therefore, there is no fixed minimum heating load—the key factor is a professional heating load calculation, which your expert partner will perform for you.
OVUM offers the AirCube air-source heat pump (2–160 kW, cascadable), the CUBIC—the first stackable ground-source heat pump (7–54 kW)—and the Cube storage tank as a smart energy hub for hot water, buffer storage, and the heating circuit. The OPW series is also available for domestic hot water production.
Both are possible. The AirCube is suitable for modern new construction as well as for demanding renovation projects. For the CUBIC, the 7-kW model is suitable for new construction and well-insulated single-family homes; the 14-kW model for larger single-family homes and renovation projects; and the 21–54-kW models for large residential buildings and smaller multi-family buildings. Your OVUM expert partner will help you determine which solution is best for you during a personalized consultation.
A highly efficient, future-proof heating system with low operating costs is a strong selling point when renting or selling—especially as energy efficiency requirements for buildings continue to rise. However, it is not possible to reliably quantify a general increase in value; it depends on the property’s location, condition, and overall energy strategy.
Yes. OVUM heat pumps are all-in-one systems for heating, cooling, and hot water. The CUBIC and Cube storage units support both active and passive cooling—with the Cube storage unit, the switchover occurs fully automatically via integrated shut-off valves.
Generally not: The Cube storage tank already has a built-in buffer storage function. It optimizes the heat pump’s operating times and perfectly decouples heat generation from the heating circuit—gently on the materials and efficiently.
The hygienic fresh-water system in the Cube storage tank heats the domestic water only at the exact moment the faucet is turned on. There is no standing hot water in the tank—which significantly reduces the risk of Legionella. Fresh, clean, and safe.
Up to 19.3 kWh of heat. The Cube storage tank is available in two sizes: the Cube 500 with a storage capacity of 480 liters and the Cube 700 with a storage capacity of 680 liters. Both operate with distinct temperature stratification—hot water at the top, cooler water at the bottom—thereby delivering consistently comfortable hot water temperatures.
The practical benefit: Instead of feeding excess PV electricity into the grid for just a few cents, you can store it as heat and use it in the evening. The plant draws exactly the amount of power that’s currently available—even if it’s only a few hundred watts, depending on the type of heat pump.
The value of 19.3 kWh applies to the Cube 700 when PV mode is enabled in ECO hot water mode.
Very little. The Cube storage unit combines 9 functions in just 1 m² of floor space. The outdoor AirCube measures 113 × 80 × 100 cm (2–8 kW) or 158 × 80 × 100 cm (3–20 kW), depending on the power level, and stands out for its low profile. Thanks to just 150 g of R290 per module, the CUBIC can be installed inside a building without any additional safety measures.
You don’t need a traditional boiler room. The Cube storage unit combines storage, hydraulics, and a Controller in a footprint of about 1 m²—that’s less space than a gas boiler with a separate water heater takes up. Thanks to its very small amount of refrigerant, the CUBIC requires no additional safety measures for indoor installation. It can therefore be installed “in standard utility or auxiliary rooms without any special structural requirements.” Thanks to its low profile, the ACP series offers great flexibility in installation. Please note the safety clearances that must be maintained due to the use of R290 refrigerant.
The Thermotresor is a casing that insulates and protects both the storage tank and all hydraulic components in the Ovum Cube storage system. Thanks to the Thermotresor, standby losses are reduced by up to 50%, since most of the heating pipes are already well insulated.
OVUM is growing rapidly and is always looking for new team members—from software development to sales. In general, heat pumps operate most efficiently at low flow temperatures, such as those required by underfloor heating systems. However, OVUM heat pumps have been proven to achieve high efficiency even when used with radiators—see the real-world example showing gas savings of approximately 24,000 kWh per year. MIRA allows for the independent control of up to 8 heating circuits, including a combination of underfloor heating and radiators.
Yes. The MIRA operating system is as intuitive as a smartphone and can be controlled from anywhere using a cell phone, tablet, or PC. The weather-based schedule proactively plans heating operations based on real-time weather data; up to 8 heating circuits can be controlled individually; and over-the-air updates automatically keep the system up to date.
Yes, this combination is particularly worthwhile. MIRA tracks your solar power production in real time and adjusts the heat pump’s output continuously and with watt-level precision to match the surplus—instead of feeding electricity into the grid, you use it for heating, hot water, or cooling. The connection is manufacturer-independent via OVUM PV-Watch or the Sunspec protocol, and a battery storage system is also intelligently integrated.
Thanks to the MIRA controller, data such as temperatures, operating hours, and statistics can be conveniently retrieved remotely. Through over-the-air updates, the controller is always up to date with the latest technology, making it continuously better and more efficient.
The OPW series is a smart way to heat water as efficiently as possible, especially in residential buildings. Energy is extracted from the heating system (underfloor heating or radiators). This energy serves as the source for the OPW domestic hot water heat pump. Thanks to the high source temperatures, efficient hot water production is possible.
Yes, the OPW is primarily intended for residential construction. This system is significantly more efficient than other hot-water systems because it does not require circulation, and, in addition, no hot-water pipes are needed inside the building. This minimizes heat loss in two ways.
“Passive hot water” refers to Ovum’s domestic hot water heat pumps, which use the heating system as an energy source. This allows hot water to be heated in a cost-effective and smart way, especially in apartment buildings and residential properties.
Yes. Authorized partners receive comprehensive product training, and we’ve already held events such as an open house for those interested. The most recent open house took place in 2025 to celebrate the opening of our new location. Everything under one roof: Your local OVUM specialist partner handles consulting, planning, installation, and service. This means you’ll have a single point of contact throughout the entire project.
Installation on site is faster than with conventional plants because many components are preassembled at the factory and delivered with wiring that’s ready to plug in. This saves installation time and prevents wiring errors.
When combined with the Cube storage system, the actual installation time is reduced by up to 50% compared to a conventionally installed plant with comparable output.
On-site installation typically takes 3 to 4 days for the heat pump and storage tank. Earthwork or drilling may also be required.
Your OVUM expert partner will coordinate delivery and installation as part of the project planning process—tailored to the on-site conditions. Yes, the equipment can also be transported to the site by crane, helicopter, or via Austria’s oldest gondola lift on the Rax.
Expect a timeframe of 6 to 12 weeks from your initial inquiry to a plant that’s ready for operation. The majority of this time is not spent on installation, but rather on planning, processing subsidies, and—in the case of geothermal energy—developing the heat source. Thanks to factory-assembled, plug-and-play system technology, the actual installation is the shortest phase. Your expert partner will provide you with a firm schedule as soon as the subsidy status and heat source have been clarified.
The investment depends heavily on the building, the required capacity, and the scope of the system—it would be irresponsible to provide blanket price estimates. Your OVUM expert partner will prepare a customized quote for you; government incentives can further reduce the investment.
We recommend servicing every 2 years. It will be conducted by your regional OVUM expertise partner. Because the MIRA control system records all operating data in its entirety, many issues can be checked remotely—making on-site visits shorter and more focused.
Your OVUM expert partner provides you with end-to-end support—from consulting and planning to implementation—all under one roof, including assistance with funding matters.
Your local OVUM expert partner is your personal point of contact: They provide on-site consultation, design the right system solution for your building, and then handle installation and service—all from a single source. You can find a partner near you at ovum.at.
The plant can be manually switched to emergency mode and will continue to heat until the cause of the problem is resolved. This requires a backup heating element. Your first point of contact is your regional OVUM Competence Partner—short travel distances, a familiar face, and no waiting on a hotline. Using the comprehensive operational data from the MIRA control system, your partner can monitor your plant remotely and resolve many errors directly via remote maintenance—often before a technician’s on-site visit is even necessary. You can agree on specific response times with your Competence Partner.
The following information is helpful for preparing an accurate quote: living or usable square footage, year of construction and insulation standard, the existing heating system, the type of heat distribution (radiators or underfloor heating), hot water requirements, and details about any existing or planned solar PV plant. Your expert partner will work with you to gather these details.
In Austria, government incentives can significantly reduce the cost of investing in a heat pump. Specific programs and incentive rates change regularly—your OVUM expert partner can inform you about the options currently available.
That depends on the building, the existing heating system, and energy prices—making blanket promises would be irresponsible. A real-world example: Two existing buildings (built in 1952 and 1993, totaling 250 m²) save approximately 24,000 kWh of gas per year with OVUM technology. Thanks to the high efficiency (SCOP 6.02), operating costs are significantly lower than with oil and gas.
About 4 metric tons per year—that’s how much a real-world retrofit project saves, in which approximately 24,000 kWh of natural gas was replaced annually by an OVUM heat pump.* How much you’ll save depends on your current heating system and your actual consumption: Those switching from oil will save more, while those coming from a modern gas boiler will save slightly less. Your expert partner will calculate the exact savings for your property.
*Calculation basis: 24,000 kWh of natural gas, emission factor “0.201” kg CO₂/kWh; minus the heat pump’s electricity consumption at an annual coefficient of performance of “4.0,” weighted at “0.15” kg CO₂/kWh (Austrian electricity mix, as of September 2026). Yes. Here’s a real-world example: Two single-family homes built in 1952 and 1993, with a total living area of 250 m², are heated using OVUM technology and upgraded radiators—without any underfloor heating—and save approximately 24,000 kWh of gas per year. The flexible heat distribution works even at low flow temperatures.
