The Brine Heat Pump from OVUM

CUBIC
Safe and Flexible

Maximum Flexibility in Heating Design
The CUBIC brine heat pump is far more than a traditional geothermal heat pump. The system is based on frost-proof brine technology and can be precisely adapted to local conditions. From a total of ten different energy sources, the optimal solution for each project can be selected—four of which utilize energy completely independently of the ground.

The Cubic solves a challenge that has remained unresolved to date throughout the entire heat pump industry.
Propane (R290) is considered the refrigerant of the future, but is subject to strict safety regulations when the charge exceeds 150 grams. Typically, 150 grams is sufficient for about 7 kW of heating capacity—but 14 kW or more is often required. Installation inside a building is then possible, if at all, only with additional safety systems such as gas detectors or forced ventilation.

The solution: CUBIC’s patented modular concept. Instead of building larger machines, individual CUBIC modules are stacked on top of one another to increase capacity—using just 150 grams of propane per module. High performance with minimal refrigerant charge. If capacity requirements change, the CUBIC Tower can be retrofitted with additional modules—without having to replace the system or install additional piping.

Scalable Performance with Maximum Security

Thanks to its patented modular design, the CUBIC can be precisely adapted to performance requirements. As demands increase, expansion modules can simply be stacked on top of one another, without any additional piping work or system replacement.

Stackable

Thanks to the patented modular design, multiple heat pump modules can be stacked on top of each other to save space, and their output can be adjusted as needed.

Efficient

Despite its low refrigerant charge, the CUBIC achieves a SCOP of 6.0 (B5/W35), making it one of the most efficient ground-source Heat Pumps of its kind.

Sure

With just 150 g of propane per module, the CUBIC is designed for indoor installation and does not require additional safety systems such as gas detectors or forced ventilation.

Flexible

Up to ten different energy sources and a modular, customizable power range enable flexible planning to meet a wide variety of requirements

Easy Installation

The modules are stacked without the need for additional piping.

Ideal for replacement

Thanks to its compact design, flexible connections, and modular, adjustable output, the CUBIC is particularly well-suited for replacing existing heating systems.

All Features

Safe. Flexible. Stackable.

Because it uses such a small amount of refrigerant, the plant can be easily installed inside the building—without the need for additional safety measures.

R290 per module. Can be easily installed inside a building.

Up to 6.0 kWh of heat can be generated from 1 kWh of electricity (based on B5/W35)

Maximum heating capacity. Suitable for any application

Patented stacking technology

The system is based on the starter module with 7 kW of heating capacity. Need more power? No problem. The modules—and thus the capacity—are simply stacked on top of one another. The CUBIC Tower can be expanded at any time with an additional module, without having to replace the entire system and with minimal effort.

Safety Without Even Thinking About It

The patented CUBIC not only provides an innovative heat pump solution but also enhances operational reliability.
Multiple heat pump modules in a single unit increase efficiency during part-load operation while also providing additional safety. Because of the low propane charge per refrigeration circuit, there is no need for complex safety systems or exhaust air systems.

Intelligent Controller

All Heat Pumps are controlled using the smart MIRA Controller. The user interface is designed like a smartphone, offering a completely intuitive user experience. It not only controls the Heat Pump itself but also provides intelligent functions for optimal energy management.

The CubeTank completes the boiler room: hot water, buffering, fresh water module, cooling function, and PV surplus control are pre-assembled on one square meter and factory-set.
If a custom hydraulic system is required, the MIRA Plus can control even complex plants without the CubeTank.
For simple plants, the MIRA Mini is sufficient: it offers a reduced range of functions at a lower price. PV integration and the use of weather data are still possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Deep drilling is one option, but not the only one. Depending on the property, ground-source collectors, ring-trench collectors, geothermal baskets, or—if the groundwater is suitable—well systems may also be considered. The CUBIC heat pump can integrate and even combine up to 10 different heat sources from water or the ground. It’s especially important to note the permitting requirements: geothermal systems generally require official approval. Jurisdiction and requirements may vary by country and state. Your OVUM expert partner will check in advance which source is permitted on your property and makes economic sense, and will handle the application process.

For larger retrofits, modulation and cascading ensure that the plant is precisely sized to meet heat demand and always operates within the optimal speed range. The stackable CUBIC can be easily expanded as demands increase—without the need for additional piping or system replacement. OVUM supports designers and partners with system design and integration.

The CUBIC is the first stackable brine heat pump: Thanks to patented stacking technology, up to 8 modules can be combined, and the output can be flexibly adjusted from 7 to 54.4 kW—without the need for additional piping or system replacement. With only 150 g of R290 per module, installation inside the building is possible without additional safety measures. In addition, up to 10 different energy sources—including air, water, or ground—can be integrated.

OVUM offers scalable solutions for apartment buildings and residential construction: The AirCube achieves up to 160 kW in a cascaded configuration, while the CUBIC, with a capacity of 21–54 kW, covers large residential buildings and smaller apartment buildings—and can be expanded later without replacing the system, thanks to patented stacking technology. Through the ModBus extension, MIRA also integrates into the building management system (BMS).
