Out with oil heating, in with solar power.
Complete Package: Air-Source Heat Pump, Solar PV, and Storage System in Kiefersfelden

In Kiefersfelden, the old oil-fired heating system was completely dismantled and replaced with a modern energy system. At its heart is an air-source heat pump that runs on solar power generated on-site.
Until now, their annual heating oil consumption has been around 2,200 liters. The family’s goal: greater independence and a sustainable supply.

From Oil Heating to Your Own Energy System
Previously, an oil-fired heating plant that consumed about 2,200 liters of heating oil per year met the building’s heating needs. As part of the renovation, the old plant was completely dismantled and replaced with an integrated system consisting of a heat pump, solar panels, and a storage tank.
OVUM AC417P Air-Source Heat Pump
With built-in fresh water technology for heating and hygienic hot water.
Photovoltaic System
11.4 kWp of power generation capacity on the sloped tile roof.
Battery Storage & Hybrid Inverters
10 kW storage capacity for a high rate of self-consumption of solar power.
Water Softener
Reduces limescale buildup in the heating system and hot water supply when the local water hardness is high.

Solar power used directly for heating
The heat pump primarily uses the electricity generated by the rooftop solar array. Any excess electricity is fed into the battery storage system via the hybrid inverter and is available for later use. This allows the household to heat its home largely with electricity it generates itself.
Scope of Work for the Modernization
The conversion encompassed the entire technical process, from the old plant to the fully operational plant:
- Removal and proper disposal of the old oil-fired heating system, including the oil tank
- Excavation, foundation, and core drilling work in preparation for the new plant
- Heating system installation for the air-source heat pump, including the hydraulic system
- Installation of the PV plant with storage and a hybrid inverter
- Electrical Wiring and Insulation in the Utility Room
- Commissioning and System Tuning
- Assistance with the application process for heat pump and solar PV plant grants
Implemented by an OVUM partner company
Planning, installation, electrical connection, and commissioning were all handled by a single point of contact.
