About 10,000 kWh of gas replaced by a heat pump, solar panels, a storage system, and a wallbox

An energy retrofit in Tyrol is gradually transitioning the household to renewable energy. The gas furnace, which consumed about 10,000 kWh of gas per year, was completely phased out.
Planning and execution were carried out as a coordinated, comprehensive solution—from the electrical installation to commissioning.

From a Gas-Fired Boiler to Your Own Energy System
Previously, a gas furnace that consumed approximately 10,000 kWh of gas per year met the home’s heating needs. As part of a renovation, the residents opted for a system based on renewable energy. At the heart of the new solution is an OVUM heat pump, which was installed alongside a photovoltaic system, a battery storage unit, and a SolarEdge inverter.
OVUM Heat Pump
8 kW air-to-water heat pump for heating and hot water, mounted on the flat roof next to the solar panel plant.
Photovoltaic System
7.6 kWp of generating capacity, mounted on racks in several rows on the gravel roof.
Battery Storage
9.7 kWh storage capacity, installed in the basement to save space.
SolarEdge Inverters
Converts the solar power generated; mounted on the wall in the basement and under the carport roof.
Wallbox
Prefers to charge the electric vehicle using solar power it generates itself.
Emergency Power Switchover
Automatic transfer switching in the control panel that ensures a continuous power supply in the event of a power outage.

The OVUM Heat Pump in Detail
The outdoor unit was installed on the flat roof next to the photovoltaic system to save space. Inside the building, a buffer tank with connected piping ensures even heat distribution. The OVUM Controller’s operator panel allows for centralized control of the heating and hot water systems.
Interaction Between Heat Pumps, PV, and Storage Systems
The system’s added value lies in the interaction of its components: The photovoltaic system generates electricity, which is primarily used directly in the home and by the heat pump. Any excess electricity is fed into the battery storage system via the SolarEdge inverter or used to charge the electric vehicle at the wallbox.
Security of Supply Even During a Power Outage
Another key component is the automatic backup power switchover in the control cabinet. It ensures that power from the storage system remains available in the event of a failure in the public power grid. Combined with the battery storage system, this creates a system that reduces energy costs and ensures greater reliability of supply in everyday life.

Electrical connections, installation, sheet metal work, and PV installation—including crane lifts—were all coordinated. Commissioning and fine-tuning of all components were handled through a single point of contact.
