A cascade of two heat pumps— 17 kW and 20 kW, totaling 37 kW—was installed for a senior living community with office space in northern Germany.
The system adjusts output to meet demand and enhances operational reliability—which is important when hot water demand is high and usage patterns vary.

Hot Water for a Community Facility
A heat pump cascade consisting of two combined units with a total output of approximately 37 kW was installed for a senior living community with an integrated office area. Particular emphasis was placed on hygienically sound hot water production, as required in communal facilities with high hot water demand. The plant was also designed to integrate with an existing photovoltaic system.

How a cascade meets demand
In a cascade system, multiple heat pump units work together and share the total required capacity. Depending on current demand, individual units can be turned on or off, rather than running a single, oversized plant continuously. This can be a sensible design choice for buildings with fluctuating or high hot water demand—such as community facilities or apartment buildings.
